The Supreme Court on Tuesday said that positive progress must be made in the former attorney general Sardar Khan’s murder case and directed the Islamabad Police to arrest the main accused Roohullah within two weeks.
A three-member bench comprising Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry, Justice Azmat Saeed Sheikh and Justice Gulzar Ahmad heard the proceedings of the escape of the main accused from police custody.
During the hearing, the SC was informed that Roohullah had fled to Afghanistan and the Islamabad Police was trying to apprehend him for the former AGP’s murder.
Islamabad Police Senior Superintendent Yaseen Farooq told the SC that the KP Inspector General Police, the Embassy of Afghanistan and the Foreign Office were not cooperating with them to apprehend Roohullah.
The Islamabad Police also submitted a progress report regarding Roohullah’s arrest.
The chief justice termed the progress report unsatisfactory and said the Islamabad Police’s efforts were not appreciable.
Justice Gulzar questioned how the accused could have escaped from police custody.
The Islamabad Police informed the SC that the accused had escaped from a hospital and would be arrested soon.
