The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has introduced a new polling scheme, increasing the number of polling stations, across the country to facilitate the voters and in compliance with an order of the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
According to the new polling scheme, polling stations would be set up every two kilometres across the country and within every 10 kilometres in Balochistan. There number of polling stations in Punjab would increase by 12,000 and by 8,000, 3,000, 2,000 and 159 polling stations in Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan and Islamabad respectively, according to a private TV channel.
The additional stations brought the total number of polling stations to 90,000 across the country.
According to an ECP official the news scheme would facilitate the voters as polling stations would be nearer to their homes.
Moreover, the ECP acting on the Supreme Court of Pakistan’s directives began the process of verifying the voters’ list in Karachi.
The verification would be conducted by 19,000 government employees of the Sindh Provincial government, whereas Army and FC personnel would shortly join the verification process, which is due to end Jan 17.
Election Commission sources told the TV channel that ECP Secretary, Ishtiaq Ahmed Khan, had sent a written request to the Secretary defence, asking for services of the Pakistan Armed forces.
Moreover, the Provincial Election Commission of Sindh had also contacted the Karachi corps headquarters in this regards.
A final voters list would be compiled once the verification process is completed.
In order to erradicate the chances of mishandeling and ghaplas in the polling stations the ECP should introduce the electoronic voting system where the voters should simply touch the logo of his/her wanted political party on a touch screen instead of castin the vote after stamping. the touch screen should scan the fingure prints at the same time to avoid any bogus or repeated entriees and simultaneouslly the reslts can be displayed live on the website of ECP hence bringing dhandhliii daown to zero percent. Its one time investment whch will reesult in a prosperous pakistan. The NADRA is already having the data of all the citizens which can be used to make this system workable.
