The Punjab Metro Bus Authority on Monday became operational as Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif chaired its first-ever meeting.
The function of Punjab Metro Bus Authority is to oversee the affairs of Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS). The authority was enacted through a Punjab Assembly resolution and would be chaired by the chief minister.
At the meeting, the CM said the purpose of the authority was to set up modern and comfortable transport facilities to the people across the province. He said that the authority would ensure secure and comfortable bus operation and would also be responsible for making effective security arrangements of the Metro Bus Project.
He added that a modern system was being introduced to keep the route of the Metro Bus service clean and an agreement was being signed with the Lahore Waste Management System for this purpose.
He further said that a system was designed to stop entry of general vehicles to the Metro Bus Route and a fine would be imposed on violators.
Addressing the meeting, Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif said that the Metro Bus Authority should be operated in a professional manner because the Punjab government had launched the Metro Bus Project to provide fast and comfortable public transport facilities to the masses and wanted to expand it to other cities.
The chief minister said that the performance of the officers working on this project was commendable and the completion of the project in such a short time was a historic feat.
