Russian cycling team files suit over World Tour refusal

Russian cycling team Katusha has filed a suit in the Court of Arbitration for Sport against the International Cycling Union’s refusal of its application for the 2013 World Tour. A brief statement on the team’s website Saturday says the UCI was practicing a “policy of isolation.” The UCI declined the team’s application on Monday without revealing its reasons. The team includes top-ranked World Tour rider Joaquim Rodriguez of Spain and must now rely on wild-card invitations to the Tour de France and other races. The team pledged to stick with its plans for 2013 under new general manager Viatcheslav Ekimov, the three-time Olympic champion and former U.S. Postal Service rider.
