An art exhibition based on conceptual works by artist Amin Rehman will be inaugurated at Alhamra Art Gallery today (Saturday).
Talking to reporters, he said he was happy to display his works in Alhamra where he made efforts to set up an art gallery about thirty years ago. He said that in the current works he drew inspiration primarily from the motifs in historic Masjid Wazir Khan.
According to the artist, the works are “texts” but these words spell out geo-political concerns for this region marked by invasions and dominance of external forces.
Amin has worked in encaustic for over 20 years. He defines it as natural material for inlaying text in the tile format. The text has the semblance of calligraphy but it is the contemporary language of terrorism, politics and situation in the region, he said.
Hailing from Lahore, Amin has been working with artists since 1980s.
