Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf on Friday said that every effort would be made to ensure the cleanliness and beautification of Islamabad to present a positive image of the country.
He said this during a presentation by the Capital Development Authority (CDA) at the Prime Minister House.
Ashraf said that unless the CDA generated more financial resources, it would not be able to provide better services to the people. He told CDA Chairman Tahir Shahbaz that the authority needed to ensure transparency and focus on increasing revenue.
The prime minister observed that there were a lot of ‘katchi abadis’ and unauthorised encroachments that marred the city’s beauty. He directed Shahbaz to look into the mushroom growth of these kachi abadis and carry out background checks of people living there. The chairman was asked to submit a comprehensive report in this connection at the earliest.
Ashraf also took notice of the CDA’s failure to get an approval for the revised cost of construction on the Kashmir Highway. He directed the chairman to get an approval from the proper forum and hold an enquiry to expose the persons responsible for the violation. He emphasised on the need for cleanliness and directed the authority to start an awareness campaign in this regard.
Shahbaz said that in two months the CDA had introduced new SOP’s to ensure transparency, improve efficiency and the financial health of the authority. He said that the CDA’s records were being digitalised and its website would contain necessary information so that transparency could be ensured.
He informed the meeting that the CDA was launching an anti-littering campaign and planning to hold a festival to create awareness among residents about clearness.
