Work on the Karachi Mass Transit Programme, which includes a bus rapid transit, monorail and a circular railway, will commence in 2013. This was stated by Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan on Thursday while talking to participants of the 42nd Pakistan Navy Staff Course under the auspices of the Lahore Pakistan Navy War College at the Governor House. Ishrat said the project was being given a final shape and its implementation would start in 2013. With the completion of the mass transit programme, modern transport facilities would be available to residents of Karachi, he added. He also informed the delegates that there was immense potential for investment in the province and the government had taken steps to provide a conducive environment in this regard. He said the government had taken important steps to curb kidnappings for ransom and positive results had come to the fore in this connection. This could be gauged from the fact that 17 cases of kidnapping for ransom were registered in November and 16 of those had been resolved, he added.
