Transporters called off their strike following an intervention by Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf. A statement issued by the Prime Minister House said the strike had caused huge economic losses besides disturbing the daily life of people. Ashraf had taken note of the situation and directed Ports and Shipping Minister Babar Khan Ghouri and Commerce Minister Abbas Khan Afridi to go to Karachi to solve the transporters’ issues immedietly. The prime minister’s spokesperson said the ministers had reached Karachi on Wednesday and started negotiations with 31 unions representing various transport, truck and trailer associations.
