Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) associated Defence Minister Syed Naveed Qamar has said that Nawaz Sharif will not get anything out of Sindh and that there is no need of any operation in Karachi city. Talking to media persons, the minister said that maintaining law and order situation was the responsibility of the police instead of the army, while adding there was no need of any military operation in Karachi as no positive results had been gained after past army operations in the city.
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had not contacted the army officially for help in confirmation of voter lists in Karachi and there was no reality in NAB’s chairman statement, said the defence minister. He added how could the NAB chairman have access to information that revealed Rs 7 billion daily corruption in the country and these rumors of corruption had been aired only to bad mouth the PPP regime. Speaking about other issues, the minister said that Pakistan’s ties with the United States (US) were improving gradually.
Furthermore, he said that owing to missing evidences the terrorists got bail easily after arrests and introduction of Fair Trial Bill would help to eliminate terrorism from the country.
Moreover, he said the civil and military leadership have had very fine working relations and often contact was made between the President Asif Ali Zardari, and Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, adding that the army and government both had the same strategy on national security issues.
