Meeting called to probe daily loss of Rs.7b in corruption

The government has called a high-level meeting in connection with the investigations in daily corruption worth Rs.7 billion in the country.
Federal Minister for Religious Affairs Khurshid Shah said concerted efforts (jihad) will have to be launched against the corruption.
Speaking during the Question-Hour session in the National Assembly (NA), Khurshid Shah said several officials including Chairman National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Admiral (retd) Fasih Bukhari, Chairman Public Accounts Committee (PAC) Afzal Nadeem Chan and Registrar Supreme Court and chiefs of anti-corruption departments in all four provinces, will attend the meeting called on Monday to discuss the issue of money wasted to corruption.
A cabinet’s four-member ministerial committee will consult the officials of all concerned institutions to ascertain the facts as to how corruption worth Rs.6 to 8 billion takes place on daily basis.
Khwaja Asif, a leader of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) said corruption is a family issue of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), adding the NAB Chairman was appointed at Malik Riaz’s bidding.
The PPP’s Jamshed Dasti said Advisor to Prime Minister on Petroleum and Natural Resources Dr. Asim Hussain is a non-political personality who cannot win councilor’s elections.
