Extortionists damage shops, house and a mosque

At least nine shops and a mosque were damaged when unknown members of the extortion mafia attacked houses of two transporters on Tuesday who declined to pay extortion money. Per details, three weeks ago unknown extortionists had approached Haji Ritas Khan Niazi and Haji Aurangzeb and demanded Rs 5 million as extortion money. Upon refusal, the extortionists hurled hand grenades at houses of both transporters located at Manghopir Road in Mianwali Colony. As a result eight shops including a bakery located at the ground floor were destroyed while the house and a neighboring mosque were partially damaged. However, no human life was lost. Heavy contingent of police cordoned off the area after the attack and a case has been registered against unknown miscreants and investigations were initiated.
