In another day of violence in the financial hub of the country at least ten people including a doctor and a policeman were shot dead on Wednesday despite ongoing ‘targeted’ operations of law enforcing agencies against criminals in the metropolis.
Per sources in police, unidentified gunmen riding a motorbike, shot dead two laborers in SITE’s Metroville area and fled from the scene.
In another incident, a doctor, identified as Dr Zubair, was gunned down in Korangi No1 area. A policeman was targeted in Baldia town locality on Wednesday morning. Police said he was injured in a gun attack and later taken to hospital where he succumbed to injuries. He was posted at Saeed Abad police station.
Meanwhile, two people were shot dead in Sherpao Colony of Landhi area. The deceased were cousins. Per preliminary details, the family named no suspects and the police was investigating the motive behind the murder of the two relatives. Similarly, at least eight men, including two Rangers were killed in drive-by assaults in different areas of the city on Tuesday amidst claims of paramilitary troops and police that dozens of criminals were being arrested everyday.
In another incident, at least two people lost their lives on Wednesday after a bomb exploded near a local restaurant in a busy locality in Karachi, Pakistan’s commercial capital.
According to initial reports, the loud explosion shook the Muzzafarabad colony area of Landhi injuring an additional six people. Eight people were initially said to have been injured. However, it was later reported that two of the wounded died while being shifted to the hospital.
Initial reports also suggested that the bomb was placed near the wall of Ghareeb Nawaz hotel, a local restaurant in the busy neighbourhood.
Meanwhile, unidentified extortionists hurled a bomb inside a bakery of Manghopir and blew it up on Tuesday. Fortunately, no life was lost in the attack, but the bakery was transformed into a ruin. The owner of the bakery told reporters that the miscreants resorted to firing after throwing the bomb into the bakery. He said that the extortion mafia had told him to pay Rs20 million as extortion money.
