Defence Minster Syed Naveed Qamar has said that national airliner PIA is not coming out of continues losses due to corruption, mismanagement and overstaffing.
On Thursday during the question hour Naveed Qamar told the National Assembly that disciplinary action is being taken against those five pilots of PIA who have fake degrees. He said that at present only 26 airports out of total 43 are functional and only five of them are profitable.
He said that the sanctioned strength of PIA is 19159 whereas actually there are 20448 employees are working in the organization. Some 3058 workers are also on the daily wages.
The minister said that there are some other factors for the loss of PIA including rise of fuel price in international market, old and insufficient fleet of airplanes and devaluation of rupee as compared to dollars. He said that there is not any ban on Boeing 747 as they are functioning throughout the world.
“About 2540 PIA flights were delayed during last two months due to technical reasons, operational and security clearance as well as weather conditions”, he added.

  1. Higher ups in PIA should resign in shame. Politicians placing them in those positions should also be held accountable.

  2. It was during over 4 year tenure of Naveed Qamar's party, the PPP, that PIA losses increaded by over RS100 Billion because of corrupt, incompetent and semi literate top executives appointed by them. Before him Ahmed Mukhtar was the Def Minister and also Chairman of PIA, when all this happened.

  3. I stand to corrected but i am reliable informed by a pilot that PIA is the most overstaffed airline in the world. The fact that the pilots have fake degrees is astonishing. How can this be possible? Has this disease also extended from the politicians to the pilots. Please Inform Allah.

  4. All this is due to Zardari. Although PIA is a grand state asset but in presence of PPP, it hijacks / pulls more funds from public funds instead enhancing economy. Therefore it should be privatised. The savings will flow to the owners rather than Zardari. Emirates Airlines has been trained by PIA but there is no Zardari. So compare both with each other. One with Zardari and one without zardari……

  5. Like all public sector corporations, PIA also requires reengineering of its operations. We must not sell off our national assets to please or reward our buddies. Its the Chief Executive of a corporation who makes or breaks an organization. So, bring in real competent, honest, and progressive chief executives in public sector organizations with fixed tenure of office, authority and security of life and property to turn around his organization and start making progress and profits.
