Facebook’s services were down for many users around the world. The social networking giant said that the problem occurred after it made certain changes to its DNS infrastructure. Google also suffered form outages after its Gmail service spat out 502 error messages. Users jumped onto Twitter and began complaining about the outage, causing the two companies to scramble to fix the problems. Facebook’s problems were resolved within fifteen minutes. However, despite being back online in less than thirty minutes, some Gmail users still faced some problems according to Don Reisinger of CNET. Facebook users were able to go around the problem by visiting subdomains like as o.facebook.com, as it allowed users access to the site through an alternate path. Several inconvenience tweets from the two outages indicated that users were only upset until the services were back online. As soon as they were up and running, most users seemed to get back to their work, forgetting what happened. This is the social network’s first outage since October 2011. Facebook had then blamed the outage, which lasted for an hour, on DNS tests for its European servers.
