Islamabad Police have arrested 251 persons involved in street crimes during the current year and recovered 256 mobile phones and looted cash from their possession, a police spokesman said on Tuesday.
On the directions of Islamabad Inspector General of Police (IGP) Bani Amin Khan, all police officials and Station House Offices (SHOs) launched aggressive campaigns against those involved in street crimes. During this drive, he said that Islamabad police obtained the record of all those persons who had been involved in street crimes and arrested 251 criminals.
During this year, Islamabad police had also arrested 234 gamblers during various raids in the city and recovered stake money and other items worth hundreds of thousands of rupees from them. The Islamabad Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Yaseen Farooq had also directed the officials concerned to ensure vigilance against street criminals as well as suspects and make effective checking at all entry and exit points of the city. “It is our prime responsibility to ensure protection to the lives and property of the citizens. Those police officials involved in dereliction of duties or adopting sluggish attitude would not be spared, and strict disciplinary action would be taken against them,” the SSP maintained.
