Violence claims three more lives

At least three persons were killed and several others injured in fresh spate of target killings in different areas of the city on Monday.
According to details, unknown assailants shot at and killed a person identified as Ali Abbas in Gul Bahar area.
A man was killed in the Garden area when unknown armed men opened fire at him near Jillani Mosque and fled the scene. The body was moved to a nearby hospital where the identity of the deceased was ascertained as Muhammad Zahid. Police said that the shooting incident could be a result of personnel enmity.
Furthermore, a bullet riddled tortured dead body of an unknown person was recovered from the Martin Quarters area. Police said that the deceased was kidnapped and later tortured to death, after which his body was dumped in the said area.
Meanwhile, the security forces arrested dozens of suspects during overnight targeted search operations in various localities and recovered weapons from the possession of suspicious persons.
According to sources, Rangers personnel during an overnight targeted search operation in Mehmoodabad area arrested 52 suspected criminals including three workers of a political party.
Sources said that the rangers sealed all entrance and exit points of the area with the help of at least 50 patrolling vehicles and conducted house to house search under a heavily armed guard. Huge cache of arms including explosive devices, stolen motorcycles and mobile phones were recovered from the area when the operation concluded.
Meanwhile, the police on late Sunday night set free two policemen allegedly involved in extortion, from the Mehmoodabad Police Station. It is important to mention here that the released cops were tortured and later given into police custody by traders when they were caught red handed while demanding extortion money from shopkeepers and owners of hotels.
