Security forces raid Mohmand Press Club

The security forces on Tuesday conducted a raid at the Mohmand Press Club building and arrested two local journalists which triggered protest by the journalist community.
According to details, Mohmand Rifles officials raided the press club office situated in Ghallanai, the headquarters of Mohmand Agency, and arrested two journalists Saeed Badshah and Kifayatullah.
The security forces also allegedly tortured the journalists who came to the rescue of their colleagues and refused to listen to their point of view.
The tribal journalists staged protest against the arrest of their colleagues and blocked the Peshawar-Bajaur Highway for all sorts of traffic. They also staged a sit-in on the road.
Speaking on the occasion, president of Mohmand Press Club Shakirullah and other speakers said the journalists were being punished for upholding the truth.
They said the journalists were being stopped from their professional duties on gunpoint. They demanded immediate release of their colleagues and apology from the security forces for the raid.
Assistant Political Agent Ghallanai Jamshed Khan assured the protesting journalists to release their colleagues soon, upon which they ended their protest. However, the warned to resume protest on Wednesday if their colleagues were not released.
