Sarir-e-Khama calligraphy exhibition takes off

An international conference on calligraphy entitled Sarir-e-Khama: the Art of the Pen started on Monday.
Hosted by University of the Punjab’s College of Art and Design, the event is aimed at an exhibition of calligraphy. Displaying an assortment of Islamic and Quranic manuscripts created by calligraphers, the show will remain open till December 19.
Speaking at the occasion, the principal of the college Professor Dr. Rahat Naveed Masud called this exhibition as a valiant effort in reviving the dying art of calligraphy in Pakistan. Renowned academician and social figure, Syed Babar Ali inaugurated the show.
The show comprises a unique piece of Kufic Manuscript written on a deerskin dating to the 1st century Hijra to the masterpieces of the Mughal and British era. Moreover, unique pieces of Quranic manuscripts, in various styles including will Khat-e Naskh, Khat-e Nasta’liq, Khat-e Thulth, Khat-e Rehan, Khat-e Bahar and Khat-e-Turkistani will be put on display.
