Two petitions were filed in the Supreme Court’s Karachi registry on Monday — one calling for the disqualification of Dr Asim Hussain from the position of Advisor to the Prime Minister on Petroleum and Natural Resources, and the other challenging the assigning of an additional charge to Secretary General to President Salman Farooque as the acting federal ombudsman.
According to a private television channel, both petitions were filed by Mahmood Akhtar Naqvi.
One of the petitions stated that in the wake of the dual nationality case, Dr Hussain had resigned from his Senate seat after which he had been appointed as advisor to the premier on petroleum and natural resources.
The petitioner stated that Dr Hussain was made the advisor so that he could maintain his Canadian citizenship, but he could be disqualified from his position for this reason, while his name would be added to the Exit Control List (ECL).
The other petition, challenging the appointment of Farooque as acting federal ombudsman, stated that giving additional responsibilities to the president’s secretary general was mala fide, adding that it was also in violation of the Constitution and the law.
