Deaf cricket teams from Afghanistan, India, Nepal and Sri Lanka on Monday reached here to take part in the Asia Cup Deaf Cricket Championship being played here from December 12 at different grounds.
All the three visiting teams were given rousing reception on their arrival in the provincial metropolis by the office bearers of Pakistan Deaf cricket Association led by their President, Irfan Miraj and manger PDCA, Zaheerudin Babar.
“It is a historic moment for Pakistan deaf cricket that the Asia Cup will be played here and we anticipate thrilling cricket in coming day,” he said.
He further stated: “We have finalized all the arrangements for hosting the event in a befitting manner,” he said.
He said all the participating teams including hosts Pakistan are fully prepared to exhibit good quality cricket for the entertainment of the lovers of the game.
“This event will further promote cricket among deaf in Pakistan besides portraying a soft image of Pakistan as a safe venue for staging international cricket events for special cricketers,” ahe asserted.
Zaheer said the matches will be played at LCCA, Bagh-e-Jinnah grounds with the final December 17 final to be played at Gadaffi stadium.“ If Gadaffi stadium will not be available then we will be holding the final at Bagh-e-Jinnah ground “,he said.
PDCA official said top security is being provided to all the foreign teams. “ The matches will be 50-overs-a-side and we anticipate good crowds at all the venues “. Two matches will be played daily.
The opening ceremony of the Cup will be held tomorrow, Tuesday at Punjab stadium and Hamza Shahbaz Sharif MNA will be the chief guest on the occasion. He said efforts have been to groom a strong Pak team to successfully defend the title .
