While the Excise and Taxation (ET) Department has failed to register official vehicles, the traffic police has started an operation against token tax defaulters and vehicles without legal documents.
According to the ET rules and regulations, all vehicles including private and official vehicles had to be registered with the authority, but due to negligence of the authority concerned several official and private vehicles of government institutions have not been registered.
Rawalpindi Tehsil Municipal Administration was using unregistered heavy dumpers for various purposes which were damaging roads in the city.
Most vehicles owned by the Rawalpindi Cantonment Board and Water and Sanitation Authority were not registered, and the authorities had not registered the vehicles despite repeated notices and warnings.
The ET, when contacted, failed to give an appropriate reply in this regard. The ET officials said that they had set Rs 5 million as a target for the fiscal year 2012-13, but only four vehicles had been registered so far.
