Eight police officials including an assistant sub-inspector, two head constables and five constables were shown the door after being found involved in corruption and bribe practices, a police spokesman said on Monday.
DIG (Headquarters) Dr Sultan Azam Temuri conducted enquiries into various complaints following the directions from IGP Bani Amin Khan regarding bribery practices of few police officials.
On December 4, complaints were received against ASI Muhammad Idress, Head Constable Muhammad Ghalib, Constables Bakht Zada, Safdar from Sabzi Mandi police station and against Head Constable Elahi Bux and Constables Habib Ullah, Riaz, Rehmat Ullah from Industrial area police station for taking bribe at police pickets falling in their respective jurisdiction.
Following these complaints, the IGP assigned the enquiry to DIG (Headquarters) Sultan Azam Temuri. DIG (Headquarters) who listened to the viewpoint of all of these policemen and found them guilty of corrupt practices. He ordered their immediate termination and said that corruption as well as bribe practices would not be tolerated in the department.
Renewing the commitment to root out the menace of corruption and make Islamabad police a corruption free force, the IGP said that no one within the department would be allowed to do any kind of embezzlement and only those following the policy of zero tolerance against corruption would survive.
He said these policemen were being dismissed from Islamabad police on the charges of corruption.
He said policy of zero tolerance against corruption would be pursued because it was eating at the foundations of the country. “As Muslims it is our faith that both givers and takers of bribe will go to hell,” the IGP added.
Meanwhile, the DIG said that Islamabad Police had started an accountability system to monitor performance of the police officials and those involved in dereliction of duties, negligence, poor investigation, absence and corruption would not be spared.
He said that accountability system helps in improving the performance of any department and working of the staff can be easily judged through it.
Such accountability system would continue in future and those who were performing well would be encouraged, the DIG added.
