Supreme Court Justice Jawwad Khawaja on Monday said that courts were meant to uphold the rule of law without being swayed by public opinion, pressure or consequences.
He expressed these views in the closing ceremony of a six-day colloquium on ‘Modern Investigation and Evidence Gathering Techniques in a Changing Criminal Justice and Counter Terrorism World’ held at the Federal Judicial Academy (FJA).
The colloquium was organised by the FJA and British High Commission.
Khawaja said the anti-terrorism court judges should be equipped with new tools and techniques to administer justice.
They must adhere to the principles and norms of the criminal justice system, he added.
He said that they must not lose sight of Article 9 of the constitution which guaranteed security of life and liberty.
“The focus could be shifted to prosecution departments, and their capacity should be strengthened to bring criminals to justice,” he said.
