Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast said that the best option for restoring peace in Afghanistan was the timely withdrawal of US-led NATO forces from the country.
The spokesman said that “the withdrawal of foreign and US military troops from Afghanistan was the only pragmatic solution for Kabul to get of rid terrorism and insecurity”. He said that the US invaded Afghanistan to eliminate terrorists but Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) was funding local and ‘taliban’ militias to further its regional goals. Stressing that all regional problems were rooted in the presence of trans-regional troops, Mehmanparast stated that the United Nations should sanction the neighbors of Afghanistan to formulate a policy plan for the country.
The United States invaded Afghanistan in 2001. The offensive unseated the Taliban from power in Kabul, but insecurity continues to breed as local militias and war lords flaunt de facto rules in dispersed patches of Land. General resentment against American presence in Kabul has not allowed the Karzai regime to seep roots into the post war Afghanistan.
The coalition forces are scheduled to withdraw from Afghanistan by the end of 2014 after handing over responsibility to Afghan Army and Kabul.
