Public transporters have started charging inflated fares on routes from Rawalpindi to Kamra, Gondal and Attock.
Commuters expressed grave concerns over the issue, saying that transporters were not following the fare list devised and approved by the Rawalpindi Transport Authority (RTA) and had increased fares on their own. They said that the authorities concerned were acting as silent spectators, and many fights had broken out between transporters and commuters on the issue.
They further said that fare from Rawalpindi to Kamra was Rs 90 per head, but the transporters were charging Rs 120. Moreover, the drivers and conductors overloaded their vehicles regularly, but neither the traffic police nor the district administration authorities checked them.
A public transport driver on the Rawalpindi-Attock route said they had been using petrol in their vehicles as CNG was unavailable and therefore had to overcharge.
Commuters requested the authorities to take notice of the issue and order strict action against transporters involved in over-charging and over-loading.
