Two petitions were filed in the Supreme Court’s Karachi registry on Monday — one calling for the disqualification of Dr Asim Hussain from the position of Advisor to the Prime Minister on Petroleum and Natural Resources and the other challenging the assigning of an additional charge to Secretary General to President Asif Ali Zardari Salman Farooqui as the acting federal ombudsman.
According to a private television channel, Both petitions were filed by Mahmood Akhtar Naqvi.
One of the petitions states that in the wake of the dual nationality case, Dr Hussain had resigned from his Senate seat after which he had been appointed as advisor to the premier on petroleum and natural resources.
The petitioner stated that Dr Hussain was made the advisor so that he may maintain his Canadian citizenship and for this reason he may be disqualified from his position and that his name be added to the Exit Control List (ECL).
The other petition, challenging the appointment of Farooqui as acting federal ombudsman, states that giving additional responsibilities to the president’s secretary general was malafide, adding that, it was also in violation of the Constitution and the law.
