Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Fakhruddin G. Ebrahim urged the political parties and the civil society to work in tandem with the Election Commission to ensure free and fair general elections.
The CEC met delegations of PPP‚ MQM‚ PML-N‚ ANP Jamaat-e-Islami and various nationalist parties in Karachi. The CEC ensured the members of political and religious parties that elections would be “fee‚ fair and impartial” and no individual or organization would be allowed to violate the code of conduct as set by the election commission. Fakhruddin said that the election commission as per directions of the Supreme Court would prepare strategies for door to door verification of voters. He added that “the order of the Supreme Court in connection with the verification of voter lists in Karachi would be implemented in letter and spirit”.
