Deputy Prime Minister and PML-Q leader Chaudhry Pervez Elahi on Sunday accused the PML-N government in Punjab of conducting massive rigging in the December 5 by-polls, demanding the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) take immediate notice of the reports.
Addressing a public gathering on Sunday, Elahi said the Punjab government rigged the by-polls on a “big scale” and it would be a matter of concern if the ECP did not take action in this connection.
He said the voter turnout witnessed a sharp increase overnight, as rigging was conducted through teachers and policemen. He said despite clear violations, the Election Commission of Pakistan had failed to take any action.
Comparing his tenure as CM with Shahbaz Sharif, Elahi said the PML-N’s Punjab government had crushed the masses, while the PML-Q tenure provided numerous facilities to the people.
He said the Punjab government had diverted the funds of south Punjab to Lahore Rapid Transit Bus project, calling it a “Jangla scheme”.
“Nawaz Sharif enjoyed power several times and he should explain to the people how many times he would make a Pakistan,” he said. The PML-Q leader also criticised the Punjab government over the law and order in the province. He claimed that hundreds of robberies were being committed in the very neighbourhood Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif lived.
