Students have been facing severe transport problems as most educational institutions do not offer transport facilities.
Students also have to face inconvenience in packed public transport vehicles and maltreatment by drivers and conductors.
“School and college buses ply only on specific routes and I always use local transport to reach my college,” said Salman Khan, a student. He said this is one of the major problems for all students who lived in far-off areas.
Students said that a majority of local transporters did not stop for them at bus stops.
Sanam Ali, a student, said she couldn’t pay the full fare of a school van due to financial problems while public transporters did not allow student concessions. She said that female students had to wait for a long time to find seats because of which they often reached their colleges late.
She requested the authorities to arrange sufficient buses for colleges, especially women institutions.
Parents also complained about rashly driven school vans and buses. Very few institutions cared about monitoring the modes of transport used by their students, they said.
