CEC stresses need to work jointly to ensure free‚ fair elections

Chief Election Commissioner Fakhruddin G. Ebrahim has urged the political parties and civil society to work jointly with the Election Commission to ensure free and fair election in the country.
He was talking to delegations of various political parties‚ including the PPP‚ MQM‚ PML-N‚ ANP‚ Jamaat-e-Islami and others in Karachi.
He assured the representatives of political and religious parties that each and every step would be taken for holding of free‚ fair and impartial general election and no one would be allowed to violate the Code of Conduct.
Fakhruddin G. Ibrahim said the Election Commission in light of the Supreme Court decisions is preparing a strategy for door-to-door verification of voter lists.
He said the order of the Supreme Court in connection with the verification of voter lists in Karachi would be implemented in letter and spirit.
The representatives of political parties put forward various suggestions for making transparent and error free voters’ lists.
