In order to clear the backlog of over 70,000 complaints pending for disposal by the federal ombudsman (wafaqi mohtasib) on fast track, a panel of three officers is being considered for appointment on acting charge basis till a regular ombudsman is appointed.
According to the Press and Information Department, these officers included Malik Asif Hayat, presently working as secretary in the President’s Secretariat, Ms Nargis Sethi, working as cabinet secretary, and Taimur Azmat Osman, presently working as the Establishment Division secretary. The post of wafaqi mohtasib is a four-year tenure position which has traditionally been held by bureaucrats. STAFF REPORT
The federal ombudsman takes cognizance of complaints pertaining to public grievances on account of maladministration in utility services and inordinate delay in dispensation of relief against the federal government, ministries, divisions, departments and attached bodies.
The position of wafaqi mohtasib became vacant in October 2010 after the retirement of Javed Malik.
