Sindh government declared a red alert in the provincial capital shortly after authorities seized a huge cache of arms and ammunition on the Sindh-Punjab border on Thursday.
Sindh Minister Excise and Taxation Department Mukesh Kumar Chawla, at the post-session briefing of Sindh Assembly said that at around 11:30am he was alerted regarding a truck seized at the Sindh Punjab border after a tense situation between the security officials and the passengers of the truck. He said that the driver warned the border security force that the “the truck would explode if you came closer to it.” However the security forces managed to take custody of the truck and found it to be carrying huge quantities of arms and ammunition. The minister added that 40 kilograms of “dope”, six suicide jackets, 58 hand grenades, 18 communication boxes, 8 detonators, a rocket launcher and three kilashenkoves were recovered from the truck apart from hundreds of 30mm pistols and bullets of all kinds. Chawla said that during interrogation the driver told that the truck was bound for Karachi and there were at least two trucks carrying the same ammunition ahead of him. As a result red alert was declared in the city and all entry and exit points of the city as well.
