A gang of 20 robbers blocked the road with trees, robbed the vehicles that were stuck and injured three officials of the Motorway Police in an exchange of fire at Bhai Pheru-Multan Road interchange on Wednesday.
According to details, the Motorway Police reached the spot half an hour after being informed by a passer-by. Inspector Yaseen Joiya, Inspector Tanvir Asghar and Sub-inspector Zahid Maqsood were injured in the exchange of fire that followed.
The robbers managed to escape.
Motorway DIG Altaf Qamar said that if the police had not reached the crime scene, more vehicles would have been robbed. He said Inspector Zahid Maqsood’s condition was said to be unstable while all efforts were being made to capture the robbers who had managed to escape in the dark.
