The Lahore High Court on Wednesday sought a reply from Punjab University vice chancellor (VC) within three weeks on a petition challenging re-appointment of 65 officials in the university.
The single bench comprising Justice Amin-ud-Din Khan passed the order on a petition filed by Muhammad Yousaf.
The petitioner’s counsel said that the VC was promoting nepotism and was running the affairs of the university in violation of Punjab government rules. He added that the VC had made 65 appointments that were in violation of Punjab government orders that bar the re-appointment of civil servants after retirement.
He further said that these orders were also against directions of the Supreme Court. He asked the court to declare the appointments illegal and restrain the officers from working. The court, after hearing the arguments, asked the respondents to submit a reply within three weeks.
