Balochistan Chief Minister Aslam Raisani on Tuesday said he was ready to step down if anybody else could come and improve law and order in Balochistan in three months.
During a debate on the law and order in the Balochistan Assembly, Raisani expressed displeasure over certain remarks made by Jafar Khan Mandokhel. “I challenge Mandokhel or anybody else to come forward and improve the province’s law and order within three months,” Raisani said, adding that if anybody was successful in doing that, he would happily step down and go home.
He demanded the federal government help the provincial government in evolving a comprehensive strategy for the restoration of peace in the province.
The assembly session, presided over by the deputy speaker, Matiullah Agha, also passed an adjournment motion against the Senate’s Standing Committee on Finance for seeking details of development schemes in Balochistan, saying it was against provincial autonomy.
At the outset of the proceedings, provincial minister Shahnawaz Marri moved a resolution, saying the federal government was bound by Article 148(8) of the constitution to assist the provincial government in improving its law and order, adding that the federal and the provincial institutions should jointly devise a strategy for the restoration of peace in the province. PML-Q’s Mandokhel said the law and order in Balochistan was deteriorating day by day. He said traveling on the Quetta-Karachi highway was not possible without security guards, adding that improving Balochistan’s law and order was the government’s responsibility.
Balochistan Irrigation Minister Sardar Aslam Bezinjo said the law and order of Balochistan started aggravating in the regime of Pervez Musharraf, adding that the relatives of missing persons and of those whose mutilated bodies were found never held the Balochistan government responsible. He said the chief justice of Pakistan should focus on the fact that the law and order in the province had deteriorated, not due to the provincial government, but owing to the policies of the federal government.
He said Saudi Arabia and Iran were using Pakistani land to take revenge from each other, adding that the US and India were interfering in the province’s matter. Provincial minister Zamrak Khan said the federal government’s policies and foreign interference were behind the deteriorating law and order in the province.

  1. Raisani has failed in his job. The situation in Baluchistan is out of control. Videos of him drunk are on youtube. He has lost all respect. He has not been able to govern effectively. His purchase of a jet at national/provincial expense is outrageous. It would be best if he resigns and let someone else take over.
