PML-N President Nawaz Sharif has said the PPP and its allies are not sincere in restoring peace and tranquility in Karachi.
Talking to a delegation, led by former chief minister Liaqat Jatoi, from Sindh on Tuesday, Nawaz said the PML-N had joined the government in 2008 in the interest of the country and its people but seeing a lack of interest on the part of the federal government in resolving the people’s problems, “we decided to quit the government after a few weeks”.
He said in its recent decision, the Supreme Court had ordered action against the militant wings of various political parties but the government had made no progress in this regard, adding that the killing of innocent people in Karachi was a matter of grave concern.
Nawaz said law and order could be restored in Karachi only through a neutral administration and a police force which was free of political pressure. The PML-N chief said if given an opportunity, his party would attach top priority to the restoration of law and order in Karachi and the elements destroying peace and harmony in the city would be dealt with an iron hand.
Expressing complete confidence in the leadership of Nawaz Sharif, former PP provincial minister Abdul Hakeem Baloch, former Sindh Assembly member and leader of Tehreek-e-Insaaf Michael Javed, former PPP Jacobabad president Aslam Abru, prominent industrialist from Karachi Asif Qureshi, former DIG Akbar Bhangwar, Saleem Baloch, Riaz Baloch and Abdul Ghani Kaloti, joined the PML-N.
The delegation also included Shafi Jamot, Badar Channa, Shafique Ahmed Khosu, Zafar Ali Shah, Mushtaq Jatoi and Yaser Abru.
Nawaz welcomed them and said their joining of the party was a proof that the party’s popularity was growing in Sindh, adding that the PML-N would field strong candidates in the province in the next general elections. Former Sindh minister Abdul Hakeem Baloch invited Nawaz to visit Sindh, to which Nawaz said he would soon make a plan to visit Sindh, including Karachi.
