Govt determined to ensure access to food, reduce poverty: Nadeem Afzal

The government is determined to reduce hunger, malnutrition and ensure access to food by helping the poorest segments of the society through cash transfers under the Benazir Income Support Programme.
This was stated by the Public Accounts Committee Chairman Nadeem Afzal Chann while addressing the concluding session of the Pak-Brazil International Seminar on Food Security and Poverty Alleviation.
The seminar was organised by the Ministry of National Food Security and Research (MNFSR) and the Brazilian Embassy in collaboration with Pakistan Agricultural Research Council (PARC), World Food Programme (WFP), Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI).
Nadeem said that the government had taken several measures to eliminate hunger and malnutrition by achieving self sufficiency in food production and just distribution across the country.
He further said that the present government was committed to improving people’s access to food by helping the poorer segments through cash transfers under the Benazir Income Support Programme.
