Sindh Board of Investment (SBI) Director General said that Sindhi dates could earn much needed foreign exchange in international markets if the concerned authorities invest in packaging and marketing the dates as per its international competiriors.
He was addressing a delegation of officials and date growers from Sindh at the world’s largest date processing facility in UAE. A delegation of Sindh Board of Investment consisting and date palm growers visited the processing plant of Date Processing Company located at Al-Ain, UAE. Al-Foah processing plant was commissioned by the UAE Govt 14 years ago to help develop date palm clusters by acting as a common facility centre for date palm processing in numerous forms. Al-Foah Export Sales Manager Sameer and factory manager Uday Singh briefed the delegation on proper fumigation of the raw date crop to increases its self life and to prevent it from any pest, insects or larvae. The delegation was also shown high capacity washing, sorting and drying facilities with a cold storage capacity of more than 60,000 tons. Processed dates are stored at 10 degree Celsius.
