Interior Minister Rehman Malik has warned of covert operations in Afghanistan against Swat Taliban leader Mullah Fazlullah and Maulvi Faqir if they did not halt their terrorist attacks against Pakistan.
Addressing a rally in Chitral, Malik said if any Pakistani was killed in the future, an operation would be conducted against terrorists hiding in Afghanistan. “We will reply sternly if there is any activity from Afghanistan,” Malik said. Malik added that he would provide details regarding the assassination of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto in his upcoming book. Mullah Fazlullah, or Mullah Radio, was the founder of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Swat chapter and once reigned over the scenic valley though terror and his fiery radical speeches against the state and the West. He tried imposing his own brand of Sharia in Swat before the military eventually drove him out in an offensive in 2009. Fazlullah has since fled to Afghanistan and restructured his tattered group.
