Station House Officer (SHO) of Industrial Area Police Station has apparently been removed from his post for following courts orders by his Superintendent of Police (SP) and is being asked to relinquish the charge.
Reliable sources in the police told Pakistan Today that junior police officers were facing consequences for registering an FIR against former Military Lands and Cantonment Boards (MLC) Director General Maj Gen (R) Nusrat Naeem.
The former MLC chief has been accused of committing fraud in a business deal.
Sources said that the retired major general purchased a steel mill located in the industrial area and gave a cheque worth Rs 30 million to Muhammad Ali. However, the cheque got bounced. Muhammad Ali went to Industrial Area Police Station to get an FIR registered against the former DG but the police refused.
Subsequently, the victim filed a 22-A application in the court of Islamabad Additional Sessions Judge Azam Khan, who ordered the Industrial Area Police to register an FIR under section 489-F against the former MLC DG.
However, police kept delaying the mater for more than three months until the Industrial Area Police registered an FIR (No. 446) on November 26 against the former MLC DG.
Sources said that when the matter was brought into the notice of the Interior Ministry high-ups, they directed police officers to suspend the concerned SHO, Chaudhry Shafiq. Following these orders, Industrial Area SP Dr Khurram Rasheed on Saturday evening has verbally asked the SHO to relinquish his charge.
