Tight surveillance of slums ordered

Islamabad Police has directed officials of its intelligence departments and police stations to tighten surveillance of seminaries and slums, especially Afghan settlements.
A meeting chaired by SSP Yasin Farooq was held in this regard. It was attended by SPs and officials from different police stations.
All officers have been directed to make use of intelligence reports and tighten surveillance of the Afghan settlements in the city. Inspector General Bani Amin extended the permission to tighten surveillance.
According to sources in Islamabad Police, these steps were taken to secure the federal capital against terrorist activities.
CDA, district government fail to demolish katchi abadi in H-9: Capital Development Authority (CDA) and the district government failed to demolish structures in the katchi abadi (slum) in H-9 and reoccupy the land grabbed by residents despite all efforts.
According to sources, officials of the authority were busy bulldozing structures in the operation against tent residences of the slums, when nearly 70 women and 30 children blocked the bulldozer’s way, claiming that CDA had allowed them to occupy the land.
The leader of the slum residents appealed to the officials to give them 24 hours to obtain permission from the concerned authorities.
When contacted, the Industrial Area assistant commissioner said that he had not been contacted for permission to erect structures on CDA land. Speaking about the occupation of land adjacent to J Salik Colony in Sector G-8/1, he said that 70 to 80 cloth shacks had been demolished, adding that some elements were still trying to grab CDA land in H-9 and the authority had called on the police help in this regard.
