Special committees fail to evolve recommendations, suggestions

All special committees formed by National Assembly have failed to evolve any recommendations, suggestions for important National issues, since their inception, over a spate of years.
The committees thus formed include Special committees for delay all flights including Hajj flights, Energy crisis, committee formed over law and order situation of Karachi and Balochistan, foreign and domestic loans, millennium development, missing persons, petroleum prices, dangers facing journalists, protection for minority lands, etc.
Sources said that some reports of such committees are already lying with deputy Speaker Faisal Karim Kundi, but has yet failed to debut in N.A, while the leading post of chairman for committee on development of projects in Dera Ismail Khan and that of All-Parties-Conference (APC), is still lying vacant.
Sources also said that many committees have only been able to hold a total of five, six meetings only, while many committees held only four meetings since their inception. The expenses incurred by these committees is another story, altogether.
Talking exclusively to ONLINE, over the issue, the chief whip of PML-N, Aftab Ahmad Sheikh said that committees were formed to ensure better performance by departments, ministries, citing forming of a sub-committee regarding CNG issue, yesterday.
Speaking on the occasion, PPP’s Maula Bakhsh Chandio said that while committees were functioning, yet he was unaware of their any conclusions, reports; however he would look in the issue when he arrived in Islamabad.
ANP parliamentarian Pervez Khan said that there was ‘some logical reason’ for failure of three committees to prepare their reports on time, citing such reasons like National Assembly sessions during which committees’ meetings were not held, disinterest of committee members to participate in their committee sessions, flux of committee meetings, during which finding committee room(s) became a daunting task.
He also cited vested party interests as being responsible for lack of interest in committee meetings.
