PM reiterates resolve to fighting terrorists

Prime Minister (PM) Raja Pervez Ashraf pledged a resolve on behalf of the nation to defeat elements threatening the lives of the innocent citizens. Addressing a cabinet meeting in Islamabad on Wednesday, the PM said investigation of the incidents at Rawalpindi and Dera Ismail Khan during Muharram was in progress and the culprits would be given exemplary punishment. The PM appreciated all those who played an important role in maintaining peace during Muharram. He also paid tributes to all authorities including armed forces‚ security agencies‚ police‚ rangers‚ clerics‚ media and the civil society for maintaining unity during the holy month. Briefing the cabinet on the D-8 summit in Islamabad‚ the PM said D-8 was an important forum and members were of the view that development and progress of the concerned countries are linked crucially with stability and peace in Afghanistan. The member states, he said, expressed their confidence in the continuation of democracy in Pakistan and appreciated President Asif Ali Zardari’s initiative for trade‚ banking‚ barter trade‚ preferential trade and currency swap among D-8 members. He said the summit appreciated the reformation steps being taken by the democratic government in Pakistan. Ashraf congratulated all stakeholders including the foreign office for the conducive holding and management of the D-8 summit in Islamabad.
