Dr Saeed Ahmed Khan’s release raised hopes that a strike by hospital doctors across the province would come to an end, but subsequent developments dampened the optimism as doctors continued their strike in Balochistan on Thursday.
Dr Khan, an ophthalmologist, who was abducted 43 days ago, was recovered after payment of heavy ransom on Wednesday.
In response, the Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) Balochistan vowed to continue the doctors’ strike across government-run hospitals in the province until their demands are fulfilled.
PMA Balochistan President Dr Sultan Tareen said that Doctor Saeed was recovered after paying the ransom, adding that the government had played no role in his recovery.
He lamented that the doctors have only demanded security from government.
Dr Sultan Tareen said that the doctors would continue strike until the fulfillment of their demands, adding that the killers of the doctors should be brought to justice, cases registered against protesting doctors should be ended and responsible for registration of cases should be brought to book, adding that secretary health should be fired from his post.
It is pertinent to mention here that the Balochistan doctors’ province-wide strike is being observed from October 16, causing severe difficulties to patients.
