SIC suspends Fazl Karim for reaching electoral deal with PML-N ‘unilaterally’

The Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) on Tuesday struck a seat-adjustment deal with the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) for the upcoming general elections.
“We have reached an understanding with regard to seat adjustment for the polls,” SIC chief Sahibzada Fazal Karim told reporters on Tuesday, a couple of hours before his party chairmanship was suspended by the Council’s leadership for forging an electoral understanding without taking the other members into confidence. He was flanked by PML-Q leaders Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and Pervaiz Elahi.
Earlier, both Chaudhry brothers called on Karim at his residence to thrash out a political alliance for the upcoming polls.
Dropping clues on extending alliances with other political parties as well, Karim said the SIC’s doors were open for everyone. Shujaat endorsed Karim’s approach. “No party alone can see this country through. All political as well as religious parties will have to join their hands together to row the boat out of troubled waters,” Shujaat said. He said the PML-Q was ready to work with religious parties in the country’s larger interest.
