Nawaz flays SPLGO, supports strike against ordinance

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday condemned the Sindh People’s Local Government Ordinance (SPLGO), calling it a conspiracy to promote hatred and create a state within a state. In a statement issued from his office, Nawaz supported the call for a peaceful strike by the Sindh Bachao Committee on November 30. He said the people of Sindh had strongly opposed the SPLGO, which “will enforce dual system in the province”. He said the ordinance had been enforced under the pretext of reconciliation, but that it had destroyed the peace in Sindh. The PML-N chief said that the mayors of some big cities would enjoy unlimited powers, which would further disturb peace in Karachi. He also condemned the misbehaviour of some ministers of the Pakistan People’s Party with female members of the Sindh Assembly.
