Grossman resigns as US Special Envoy for AfPak

US Special Envoy for Afghanistan and Pakistan Marc Grossman has resigned from his post, an American report said on Wednesday.
The resignation will be effective from December 14.
His spokeswoman said Grossman will be returning to private life. The spokeswoman also quoted U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton as thanking Grossman for creating a “diplomatic surge” that has “put in place a network of regional and international support for Afghanistan post 2014 and into the next decade.”
He will be replaced in an acting capacity by his current deputy, David D. Pearce, ‘The Washington Post’ reported.
Special representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan (SRAP) is one of the important positions the administration of US President Barack Obama created “to coordinate particularly vexing diplomatic challenges that spanned several countries,” it said.
“Former senator George Mitchell, who served as special envoy for Middle East Peace, was replaced last year by David Hale, a senior foreign service officer.”
Grossman, who is planning to return to private life, was named Special Envoy to Afghanistan and Pakistan by Obama on February 22, 2011, replacing the late Richard Holbrooke.
