Crisis inevitable if judges’ strength not increased in IHC, says bar president

Islamabad High Court Bar Association (IHCBA) President Nayyab Gardaizi said that a judicial crisis was inevitable in January if the strength of judges was not increased.
Nayyab said that under the National Judicial Policy, all cases registered before 2008 in lower courts were supposed to be decided by December 31. Thousands of litigants would visit IHC, whereas over 11,000 cases were already pending, he said. He suggested that 11 judges instead of seven should be appointed in IHC, but at present, less than the sanctioned strength was serving. “Local lawyers should be appointed as judges in IHC as they are familiar with problems of the people,” he added.
