Pakistan Muslim League Quaid (PML-Q) Central Information Secretary Senator Kamil Ali Agha on Tuesday expressed anger and sorrow over the continuous increase in the deaths attributed to the consumption of a poisonous cough syrup.
In a statement, he questioned the efforts and the efficiency of Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif in protecting the health and lives of citizens of the province.
Agha stressed that setting up an enquiry committee to probe the matter was not enough and said as health minister, Shahbaz should be put to trial for allowing the tragedy to occur under the nose of Punjab’s leadership.
He mocked the chief minister for keeping so many important ministries for himself and said that with the job, there also was great responsibility. He added that the chief minister should claim responsibility of the deaths and be punished.
He accused the Sharif brothers of massive corruption and said that under their rule, there had been adulteration in basic medicine being provided to the people of the province. He was referring to the case of spurious medicines which resulted in 120 deaths of heart patients. He pointed out that under Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N), Punjab had faced some of the biggest health crisis in Pakistan’s history, giving the examples of the dengue epidemic and the faulty medicines.
