Justice Tariq Parvez, a Supreme Court judge, urged the district judiciary to strive to maintain and enhance respect for the judiciary.
He expressed these views in the inaugural ceremony of a one-week course titled, ‘Effective Financial Management, control over process serving agency and environmental law with special reference to jurisdiction and powers of green courts’, at the Federal Judicial Academy (FJA).
He said that the judiciary played a central role in preserving principles of justice and rule of law. However, judges, individually and collectively, must respect and honour the judicial office as a public trust and strive to maintain and enhance confidence in the justice system, he said.
Justice Parvez said, “The judiciary today has earned its rightful place in the society.
It has become an identity, wherever you move in the society and if anybody happens to know that you belong to judiciary, then, people will respect you.
People have high expectations from our judiciary and we all have to strive to live up to their expectations.”
“Your conduct should ensure public confidence in your independence, impartiality, integrity, andn competence.
Honesty, integrity and justice earn recognition and respect in the society,” he added.
He also sensitised young judges about the specified roles of different court personnel, such as bailiffs.
He urged participants to live like family members and interact with each other to learn from each other’s knowledge and experience and use that knowledge and wisdom for an effective delivery of justice to the litigant public.
